1918 - The terrible Spanish Influenza hits Chautauqua Co., Kansas and the first to die is Josie, one month later Roy dies and finally son Richard who is only 4 years old dies. Only son Rex survives this horrible disease. This was so terrible there were no funerals held, people were taken and buried right away. No obit was found in the local newspaper for Roy.
