Note: From the Fort Wayne Sentinel--Monday June 19, 1917.... TIRED OF LIVING ON ONE MEAL A DAY Mrs. Knepper Went Home to Mother Where Pantry Was Well Filled. Love famished on one scant meal a day, when Mrs. Lester Knepper, aged 17, tried to keep house for her husband on Boone Street, last winter. The girl wife gathered up her young baby and went home to Mother, at 821 Clinton Street. Since that time Lester Knepper has had several jobs but has not contributed towards keeping his family, it was told in Police court Tuesday morning. The couple met clandestinely at Robison Park Sunday night. Mrs. Knepper asked her husband for money. ''I am saving my money to hire a lawyer she declares she was told. The girl at once instituted proceedings charging child neglect on the part of Knepper. The husband pleaded "not guilty" to the complaint Tuesday. He was represented by a lawyer. Three women, who have lived where the Knepper family resided testified as to scarcity of food in the home of the girl. The mother of Mrs. Knepper told of finding a pineapple and a loaf of bread in the house when she called on her daughter on Boone Street. Knepper was found guilty and ordered to pay $4 a week towards the keeping of his family. The defendant in the case of Nellie Knepper against Leslie Knepper has begun action against the plaintiff asking that a court restrain the plaintiff from disposing of the piano which he says he can use since he is a musician.
