Note: Catherine Butler was baptized on 10 Dec 1855, the illegitimate daughter of Ellen Landers and Richard Butler. Although she carried the surname Butler, there is no evidence that her parents married. Ellen Landers is found with that name in the Worcester City Directories for 1889-90, and she is buried under that name in the Kane plot in St. John's Cemetery in Worcester.
Catherine's birth date is uncertain. The birth certificate for her daughter Elinore and her own death certificate both suggest she was born in 1852. Other censuses suggest other dates which are not credible as they are later than her baptismal date.

Note: We know from naturalization documents and the 1881 birth date of their oldest daughter that Patrick and Catherine were in Massachusetts by 1880 and were probably married in that year. They both came from Stradbally-Ballylaneen in Co. Waterford, but no record of marriage was found in the church records there. The 1880 census for Worcester shows Patrick living as a single man, a border in the Welch household on North Street in Worcestor, working as a laborer.
