a. Note:   John graduated from Marquette High School in Milwaukee and attended Marquette University before joining the Army. He was a radar technician in the Signal Corps and Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, serving in the US and in England. After the war, he returned to the University of Wisconsin and received a degree in electrical engineering in 1948. He worked as an electrical engineer for RCA and Motorola in New Jersey from 1952-1986.

Note:   The immediate family gathered for a short memorial service at the funeral home. Prayers were offered by a priest and his brother gave a short eulogy. Immediately following, John's remains were cremated and the urn was taken by his daughter.
  Following the Kane Family Reunion at Chatham, Massachusetts, in October 2006, a memorial was dedicated to John R. Kane at the Massachusetts National Military Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. His son and daughter-in-law (of the US Navy and US Army, respectively) officiated. His brother and a dozen or more cousins, nieces and nephews attended. -fk
