Mrs. Brooks retired in 1966 from the Kansas Unemployment Compensation Board in Topeka. She was born Jan.7, 1900, at Topeka, the daughter of John James and Sallie Elizabeth VanNostrand Carter. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Keating Circle of UMW, Media Grotto Auxiliary, Topeka Chapter No. 462 of the Order of Eastern Star and Ancient Toltec Rite, all in Topeka. She was married to Lawrence E. Brooks on Aug.30, 1922, in Topeka. He died May 19, 1969. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Jacob and Jacqueline Ginavan, both of Topeka; a son, Lawrence E. Brooks, Jr., Topeka; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brooks was cremated. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Highland Park United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan, 66605. Parker-Price Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
