Abilene Reflector-Chronicle, Monday, May 5, 1986, page 8: JOHN W. HUNT SOLOMON -- John W. Hunt, 92, Solomon, died Sunday, May 4, at a residence near Solomon. Mr. Hunt was born on March 3, 1894, at Flagler, Colo. He was a truck-farmer and had lived in Solomon since 1951, moving there from Salina. Mr. Hunt was a member of the Beloit Methodist Church and was a World War I veteran. He operated the Mid-Way Market in Salina during the 1950's. After he moved to Solomon, he started Hunt's Melon Market between Abilene and Solomon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie, in 1922; five brothers and sisters, and an infant daughter. Survivors include his wife, Stella of the home; three daughters, Mabel McFarlane of Wichita, Evelyn Bates of Haysville and Phyllis Brown of Wichita; two sons, Will Dean of Salina and Donald of Solomon; a brother, Albert of Puyallup, Wash.; three sisters, Dora Sheets of Tescott, Amy Haigh of Belle Flower, Calif.; and Beulah Magors of Puyallup, Wash.; 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Solomon United Methodist Church, the Rev. Charles Farmer officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Beverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlson Funeral Home in Solomon. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Fund.
