My dear Martha and Pat,
I found this letter of January 20, 1955 from you to Nelle (she sent it on to me) and the photograph, so I thought you would enjoy having it. With it I found your letter to me of July 6, 1970. I'm sorry I didn't answer it (if I didn't). I'm the world's worst corresponder; Alice is the family letter writer and she only writes to her brother in Salt Lake City! Mostly she telephones.
We were sorry about your brother Charlie. He was such a fine person, I always liked him. And your wonderful Father and Mother, what wonderful folks they were.
While I've been out of touch, I really feel I've always been close to you and the others --- I guess its a case of blood is thicker than water.!
At 71 I'm quite well considering. I had a stroke on the right side several years ago, and it left me somewhat crippled in the right leg and arm (I type with the left hand), but I'm fairly well and the only discomfort or pain now is at night, I never sleep more than 2 or 3 hrs. before I have to get up out of bed because of leg cramps, then in a half hour or so its back to bed again! My car is fixed up for me as left driver, foot and hand, and I go sailing along as though that's the normal way to go!
Helen lives about 50 miles from me, and we keep in touch one way and another. Elmer died five years ago, and Helen lives in their house at Laguna Hills. Her son John lives nearby, while her daughter Sharon lives in Fresno. John has two children, and Sharon (Berthelot) has four daughters.
Four of my children are married and have children, while our youngest, Robert, is 18 and single and a student at the local college, Mt. San Antonio College, and lives at home.
My oldest child is Jim, 35 years. He lives in San Jose, Cal. He is married to Harriet, and they have one child, Jimmie, age 10. Nancy (Maurer) lives in 29 Palms, Cal., and she and Bill have 3 children Bruce, age 10, Erin, age 9, and Bonney age 1. Patricia (Cocke) lives in Portland with her husband John. They have Jay 10 and Jesse 6. Caroline (Parsons) lives near us in Covina, and with Steve has two girls, Jenny 2 and Greg 2 mo. I think I got 'em all. We had 15 or so at Thanksgiving, all but Patricia in Portland, Ore, but she was down in Sept. We will be at 29 Palms Christmas. Nelle is still at Anoka, Minn. and Mabel is in Salina. This is running out of space, so so long for now and I hope this letter catches up with you somewhere. With love, Delbert
