  WELL KNOWN TRAVELING MAN.
Benjamin W. Miles Passed Away Yesterday Morning.
Particularly widely known as a commercial traveler, and a resident of Utica who possessed a multitude of friends, Benjamin Westover Miles died early yesterday morning at his home, 45 Grant street. He had been in ill health since March, but confined to his bed little more than a week. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mr. Miles was born in Schoharie, March 14, 1835, and was the son of David and Rebecca Miles. His early life was spent in his native town and there he was educated. About 41 years ago, he came to this city and had since resided here. Shortly after coming to this city he entered the employment of Daniel Crouse, wholesale grocer, and he traveled the section of the state south of Utica. When the firm became known as J. M. & C. B. Crouse he still remained as their traveling agent, and also when William H. Crouse succeeded the above firm he remained with him, making a period of nearly 40 years that he had been with the same firm. Since the closing up of the latter firm about a year ago he had lived a retired life.
Mr. Miles was married in 1855 to Miss Eugenia Becker of Schoharie, who died January 9, 1900. In politics he was a Democrat. He had for many years resided on Corn Hill, and his death will be regretted by many in that section of the city. He was well known among the traveling men of the state, and his death will be mourned by a large circle of friends, for he was a man to be trusted, respected and beloved. He is survived by one son, Harry B. Miles; one daughter Mrs. William W. Long, and one grandson, Benjamin M. Long, all of this city.
