  William D. Miles, formerly of Utica, died at the Kellogg House, Lowville, Saturday night, after a week's illness with peritonitis. The deceased was born in Schoharie Aug. 11, 1837, and in 18?1 he began work as traveling salesman for Gaffney, Fitzgerald & Co., of Utica, afterward for Wilcox, smith, Sanford & Co. Utica, and later for Weaver, Richardson & Co., New York, but for the past 19 years he had been with D. McCarthy & Co. of Syracuse. His work was always in Northern New York, and in that section he was very well-known and had many friends. In 1865 he married Mrs. Emma Russell, daughter of Joseph Arnott, of this city. Eight years ago they removed from this city to Binghamton. The deceased is survived by his widow and one brother, B. W. Miles, of this city, and the funeral will be held from the latter's residence, 99 Howard Avenue, to-morrow afternoon.
