Note: Letter written to Grandma (Lulu Garber) by her father (Alonzo Garber) on March 8, 1927
Great great grandfather came to America from Germany about the year 1770; was married to a Miss Welty (also from Germany) in Maryland (no date given) where Jacob Garber (great grandfather) was born Feb. 2, 1801. He was married to Miss Hannah Robinson (whose mother's maiden name was Hedges, who came from England) in Virginia about the year 1825; soon after their marriage they moved to Ohio in Shelby Co. where Abraham, (grandfather) was born Oct. 13, 1826. Ten years later the family moved to Illinois near where Petersburg now stands in Menard County. When Abraham was about 23 years of age, he was married to a Miss Elizabeth Ogden (whose mohters maiden name was Hutches). Elizabeth was born near Utica NY in 1828, (died in Allen County Kansas, Sept. 1880); Abraham died April 10th in Allen Co. KS 1914. To this union were born nine children: Morris, Sarah, Alonzo, Eveline, Hannah, James, Oscar, Mary, Charles; (Morris, Sarah, James, Oscar dying in infancy). Five attaining manhood and womanhood, (and at this date, March 8, 1927, all are living). Alonzo Garber was born in Menard Co. Illinois to Miss Virginia Isabella Dunaway (who was born near Clinton, Missouri on Feb. 2, 1862), died June 1, 1895 at Sedalia Mo. To this union were born 5 children: Leona May, born in Allen Co. Kansas Oct 28, 1880; Lulu, born at Sedalia Mo, Dec 26, 1882; Otho, born at Sedalia Mo Oct. 16, 1887; Raymond, born at Sedalia Mo Jan. 11, 1891; Orville born at Sedalia Mo, July 17, 1893. On Feb. 1, 1899, Alonzo Garber was married to Miss Nellie E. Carrier, who was born in Iowa, Nov 15, 1868; to this union were born twin boys, July 27, 1908, Leonard died in infancy, Robert on Oct. 23, 1914.
Granville Rutherford and Rachel Eads married in 1816. martha Rutherford born Nov 4, 1817. Died at the age of 75 at Sedalia Mo. Rachel Eads born at Paris Kentucky, March 6, 1797 died in Franklin Co. MO at the age of 93, leaving 123 great grandchildren. John Q. Bridges, born in Lincoln Co. NC March 25, 1811. Died in Sedalia MO 1899. Married to Miss Martha A. Rutherford at Clinton, Henry Co., MO. Miss Susan Melvina Bridges, born Nov. 7, 1842, died July 21, 1908. Jasper N. Dunaway, born near Uric MO 1842 was married to Susan M. Bridges, 1860. To this union was born one daughter, Virginia Isabella, Feb. 2, 1862. The stress of the Civil War caused them to drift apart a short time before the daughter was born, the Mother going to Illinois, living at Petersburg, Menard Co. until after the daughter was married on July 7, 1878. when she moved to Sedalia Mo., where she died, July 21, 1908.
