Note: Some research gives Thomas Harrell Evans the middle name "Harold" but this is incorrect.
There is a great deal of controversy surrounding Thomas' date of birth. Some sources cite the date 30 May, 1797, primarily because that would make him closer in age to his wife Sarah Hill. However, other sources cite the date 30 May, 1777. This would make sense since bible records indicate he was married prior to his marriage to Sarah Hill. The 1820 North Carolina Census of Johnston County records his age to be "45+" which would place his date of birth prior to 1775, but I suspect this may be an error in the census record. In all, the date of 1777 appears the most credible of those proposed, although no official record has been found to firmly establish his year of birth.
