  DAVID MCANANEY (McEnany McAnneny)
  Born in Ireland circa 1794
Husband of Roseanna McAnaney (maybe also Catherine McAnaney?)
Father of David (1824), William (1830) and Susanna McAnaney (1832)
Name appears only in Roman Catholic church records of Dungannon Parish, Northern Ireland for the baptisms of David and Susanna and as a witness/godparent at the baptism of An. child of Jac.(James) McEnany and Sara Hagan 26 April 1832.
William McAnaney (direct line ancestor) states in his marriage record 5 Jan 1851 in Rochester, Monroe, NY that his parents are David McEneny and Rose Lavery.
In civil records, in Northern Ireland, I have not found any reference to a David McEneny (any spelling variation) despite having checked all available records where he should have appeared (Freeholders List on PRONI website, 1815-1820; Tithe Aplotment Books, various FHL microfilms, 1828-1832). The only possibility is a Dean McAneny in 1814 in Gallrock living on a property with a leasehold of Daniel, John and Pat McAneny. It very clearly says Dean. Since this is a voting register of sorts, I would take this to be a different person than the Daniel listed on another page.
The name McAneny in its Gaelic form means son of the dean perhaps it was easier to write Dean than to interpret the Gaelic Daithi which was often written as David.
When my husband Patrick and I visited Northern Ireland in 2002, we found the grave of Roseanna McAnaney (McNenenny) at the old graveyard at Mullenakill, County Armagh near Clonmore, where the family was living when William was born. Roseanna and her daughter Susanna, died in July 1834. Roseanna was 40, Susanna was 2. We now know that David and his sons emigrated to Canada around 1836-37. They settled in Quebec City. Researcher Nancy Glose discovered the death record for
David McAneeny Sr. He died at Hotel Dieu (hospital) in 1863. His son David, from whom Nancy is descended, stayed in Quebec City and raised his family there.Kate McAnaney
