Note: My grandmother was vague about her age. She stole her older sister Mary's nursing papers to enlist in World War I, pretending to be older. I cannot find any birth record of her in 1894. The passenger manifest when they emigrated to Australia gave her age as 22 in 1910 (birth 1888). Her mother's death certificate in 1933 gives her age as 41 (1892). The other sisters were equally cagey on the subject. ______________ Obituaries: Detroit Free Press, 21 Nov 1979, p. 4C, also Birmingham Eccentric: Services for Margaret Clark Doyle, 84, a former member of the board of Wayne County General Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nativity Episcopal Church, 21220 W. The other sisters were equally cagey on the subject. According to my mother, Nana was engaged to a doctor who died from an infection he got when he cut his finger while operating. She had been engaged 3 or 4 times, but that grief is what sent her running to the War. Possibly she feared she was pregnant. Mother once met one of Nana's old beaux, Sir Reginald Skeet.
