a. Note:   My mother. Was legally blind all of her life but one would never know it. She did all of her work except for close work (sewing and things like that) raised 5 children and did a good job of it. Could not see to read but read braille, never could drive and had to sit close to the TV to even see it a little. She seemed somehow to accept it. My grandfather took her to all of the best clinics when she was young and nobody could ever determine whether she had some disease as a young child or whether it was a birth defect that caused it.
