Notes
a. Note:   1. Have a postcard from "Mrs. M. Hitsman"--postmarked Aug. 22 (year unclear possibly 1912, according to the DOD that I have for Mrs. M. Hitsman of 1915 had to have been before she died) Reno, Nev-- addressed to Mr. W M Hitsman Yerington, Nevada. She has dated it Aug. 28. "Dear folks all. David went through with the operation all right is as well as could be expected had his leg taken off just below the knee this morning. Am well hope you all the same love to all" This reference to David having his leg amputated is consistent with the WWI Draft Registration in 1918 that states that David has lost his left leg.
  2. Postcard from "D. Hitsman"--postmark unreadable (DOD that I have for Mrs. M. Hitsman of 1915 had to have been before she died)--addressed to Mrs. M Hitsman; 846 West 6th St.; Reno, Nev--"Yerington, Nev from your son"
  3. Postcard from "M.H."--postmarked Dec. 22, 1911 San Francisco, Cal--addressed to Mr. David Hitsman Yerington, Nev--"San Francisco, A Merry Christmas"
  4. Postcard from "Mrs. Rettizger"--postmarked (date unreadable, DOD that I have for Mrs. M. Hitsman is 1915, date prior to that) Manhattan, Nev--addressed to "Mrs. Hitsman 842 Sixth St. Reno, Nev."--"Manhattan June 29 how are you how is Willie is he still in the Hospital how is Dave. is he still at Clio...yours Mrs. Rettizger"
  5. Postcard from "Hattie"--postmarked Dec 30, 1912, Beckwith Cal.--addressed to Mrs. M. Hitsman 846 West 6th St., Reno, Nevada"--"Dear Mother A letter from Ida tells me that you eat you dinner on Xmas day with them how glad I am that it was so as Dave had gone. I am so sorry that Jennie did not come up to see us as she may never get as near again lovingly Hattie"
  6. Both the 1900 and 1920 Census records list David as single.
  7. Sister Jennie's obit. does not list him as living in 1946.
  8. Post card--no postmark--no address--no message--front of card is of purple flowers with a handwritten "David" in gold across the picture.
  9. From USgenweb Plumas, California Cemetery index "The old Potter's Field at Quincy contains very few permanent markers. The majority of the graves are marked only by simple white cross. In 2001, the Plumas County Museum (in conjunction with other supporters) erected a monument at the Potter's Field that is inscribed with the names of those buried within the cemetery. Because the records of those were sparse, there can be no guarantee that the names of the deceased are correctly spelled...The monument represents burials from 1903 to 1971. It contains no information other than names..."
