Note: N33 Emmett was born and raised in Oakland Calif. He quit school at the age of 14 and lied about his age and using the assumed name of Lawrence Kronquist joined the U.S. Navy. In the Navy he was a machinist and welder. Eventually his true age was discovered and he was discharged (this information is from childhood memory and no documentation has been located). He returned to Oakland Technical High School and graduated. Some time prior to his marriage he acquired a trucking business with 5 trucks. He drove a route from San Francisco, Calif. to Salt Lake City, Utah and Chicago, Ill. He sold the business just before his marriage. He worked for several years as a mechanic for Key System Transit Lines which is now AC Transit. He was fired from Key System for a frivolous offense due to his active participation union activities. During WW 2 he worked for “A. Pasteris & Co.” repairing and building trucks for the military. During this time he tried to enlist in the “CB’s” but they would not take him as he had a family. He did receive several draft notices but because his employer had a government contract his boss would get him deferred. After the war he worked for Bigge Drayage Co. as a truck mechanic. He then went to work for the City of Oakland Calif. as a truck and heavy equipment mechanic until he received a disability retirement some time in the early 1960’s. After a recuperation period he worked for Guy Atkinson Construction Co. maintaining generators, air compressors and small machinery during the building of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. He then started his own business in which he mainly sold and serviced fire extinguishers which he operated until his death in 1970. He was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local #3, Automotive Machinists Union Local #1546, Live Oak Masonic Lodge #61 and Unity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. From around 1946 t0 1950 he was involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts serving on commities and as Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster with Cub Pack #24 and Scout Troop #24. He was a dedicated family man.
