Jordan Will Soon Take a Bride Subtitle: His Engagement to Miss Ida Larkey is Announced This Afternoon There was an interesting engagement announced this afternoon at a card party given by Miss Ida Larkey at her home, 525 Twenty-ninth street. The party was given in honor of Mrs. John B. Tregloon, sister of Mrs.[sic] Larkey, who is visiting here from Goldfield. The engagement of Miss Larkey to John B. Jordan was announced at the card party and was a pleasant surprise to the guests. Miss Larkey is a charming and accomplished young lady. She is daughter of Mrs. M. E. Larkey and a sister of Dr. A. S. Larkey, the well-known physician. There is a little romance in connection with the engagement. Mr. Jordan and Miss Larkey were schoolmates at the University of the Pacific at San Jose. Their childhood friendship ripened into love and now they will marry in June. Mr. Jordan is a well-known business man and is now lessee of the Athens Hotel. He has made a success in the business world and has a host of friends, both in business and social circles. His engagement is a pleasant surprise to his friends. !MARRIAGE: Oakland Tribune, 31 Mar 1907 Article Title: INFORMAL TEA Mrs. Alonzo Sanford has sent out cards for an informal tea to be given for Miss Ida Larkey, whose engagement to John B. Jordan has been announced. The hours are from 3 to 5 at the Larkey home on Webster street. !MARRIAGE: Oakland Tribune (Oakland, California) 9 May 1907 Article Title: LARKEY-JORDAN Miss Ida Larkey and John Benjamin Jordan were married last evening in the building on El Dorado avenue, where the bride formerly conducted her school. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E.R. Dille. Over 100 close friends of the Larkey and Jordan families witnessed the marriage ceremony. Miss Myra Merriman was maid of honor. Her gown was of white lace fashioned over a white silk slip. She carried a shower of bridesmaid roses. The four ushers, nephews of the bride, were attired in suits of white. They were Master Sanford Larkey, Jefferson Larkey, Hale Larkey and Carl Jefferson. A trio of nieces, Miss Marion Kergan, Miss Ruth Larkey and Miss Dorothy Tregloan, were ribbon bearers and wore frocks of white and carried baskets of Cecil Bruner roses. The wedding gown was a beautiful creation of satin made after the empire model, with garnitures of princess lace. A spray of orange blossoms caught the long tuile veil, which fell to the hem of the train. A shower of lilies of the valley completed the costume. C. Richards was best man. After the wedding a supper was served before the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan on their honeymoon journey on an automobile trip through the southern part of the state. Upon their return they will reside at Hotel Athens, of which the bridegroom is owner and manager. The marriage was the culmination of a romance begun during the college days of the couple when they were students together. Jordan, first mayor of Carmel, died this morning at her home on Casanova street near Ocean Avenue, after a long period of failing health. A native of Walnut Creek, Mrs. Jordan had lived in Carmel since 1922. She was for many years an active member of the Carmel Woman's Club. She leaves a son, Jack Jordan of Los Altos; and two sisters, Mrs. Ada Tregloan of Berkeley and Mrs. Edith L. Needham of Carmel. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in The Little Chapel-by-the-Sea Crematorium, Pacific Grove, with Dr. K. Fillmore Gray officiating. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
