Note: Published1981 Joseph Parker Family Joseph Wesley Parker was born March 22, 1877 in Tay or County, Iowa. He was the son of Sarah Ann Adams, born in Terre Haute, Ind ana, October 13, 1858 and Stephen Marion Parker, born April 8, 1858 in Taylor County, Iowa. His paternal grandparents also lived in Taylor County, the gran father, Francis T. Parker, serving in Co. K. 29th Regiment Iowa Volunteer In antry during the Civil War. He died in 1863 in the Post Hospital at Helena, rkansas. His wife, Lucinda Garren Parker, and the children, Stephen, Noah an Sarah, remained in Iowa. In 1869 she married Ellis Cordell and after his de th in 1895, she lived in Athelstan, Iowa where she died in 1930 at the age of 95 years. Joseph was the oldest of the following children: Thomas, Charlie, E ward, Homer, Stephen, Harvey, Alma, Mary A., Gertie, Bessie, Sylvia M., John ie, and Maggie. Two children died as infants. The last member of this famil , Maggie Morris, died July 25, 1980 at the age of 91 years. On July 14, 1902 oseph and Bessie Ethel Downey were married at Maryville, Missouri. Bessie's p rents were Edward and Lue Zora Elder Downey. Bessie was born March 21, 1885 t Harrison County, Missouri. They became the parents of thirteen children: L ster, Marie, Austin, Wilzie, Mabel, Avis, Velma, Dorothy, Joseph, and Dean. hree sons died when infants. They were farmers by occupation, living in Noda ay and Worth Counties as well. They always raised a large garden for fresh f od in the summer and preserving for their winter use. Bessie liked to do fan y work in her spare time, especially after her family was grown. Arrangement of crepe paper roses, which she also made, were displayed in her home. Jose h died following a heart attack, February 1, 1950, while at the home of his d ughter near Bedford. Bessie died in Maryville, Missouri on Ocrtober 5, 1959 fter being in ill health for some time. ************************************** They lived in Nodaway and Worth Counties as well. They always raised a large garden for fresh food in the summer and preserving for their winter use
