Notes
a. Note:   n what is known as Buffalo Valley. It is close to the confluence of the Susquehanna and the Juniata Rivers. It is right in the heart of the French and Indian War troubles. Her father's name was William Leech but at this time we know nothing of her mother. She was raised in that area and married William McClung in about 1775. They had three children, the last one was not yet born when William was killed in the Fort Freeland massacre in 1779. She married a widower, David Martin, on October 19, 1781. To this marriage ten children were born in addition to the three David already had and the three she had. They raised this large family in what was then Fermanaugh Township of Cumberland County Pennsylvania. In 1800 David and Jane took their family to Fairfield County, Northwest Territories (Ohio) and settled there when it was just a wilderness. David died there in 1805 and left her with several minor children. Two of her oldest boys helped her run the farm until her death in 1814. It seems likely that she and David were both buried in the Tent Church Cemetery where they were both members.
