Note: From the Barrhead News 13th May 1938 Death of Mr. James Jack Well-known Burns Enthusiast We regret to announce the death of James Jack which took place at his home, "Beechfield", 126 Paisley Road, Barrhead after a brief illness. Mr. Jack had a large circle of friends which extended widely beyond Barrhead to whom his death will come as a shock and will be regretted by all. In his earlier days he took an active interest in the Boys' Brigade and was a member of the YMCA. For a period he was an office bearer in the South Church and was also a member of the choir. A member of the local Masonic Lodge he acted for sometime as treasurer of the Royal Arch Chapter. A lover of poetry Mr. Jack was a keen student of the work of our National Bard; having an extensive knowledge of the vernacular, his services were always in high demand at Burns celebrations and other social gatherings. For over 30 years in the employment of Messrs. Shanks and Co Ltd. Mr. Jack was held in the highest esteem by all with whom he came into contact. Upright in character, gentle in manner and courteous his passing will be mourned most by those who knew him best. Our sincere and heartfelt sympathy is extended to Mrs. Jack and the family.
