Notes
a. Note:   {geni:about_me} From newspaper 2.may 1966 in Ballard Seattle WA ; Ballard's Youngest 90-Year Old Mother. The home of Mathilde Boe Knutsen at 7358-10th NW was the scene of a festive occasion Sunday May 2, on her 90th Birthday. Hostesses were her four daughters: Mrs Bert Swift (Mary) ,
Mrs Harry Pripp (Alice), Mrs Geraldine Norwood with whom she lives, and Mrs Erwin Hunstad (Lillian), her daughter –in-law Mrs Ralph Boe and Mrs Claude Swift. Besides her four daughters Mrs Knutsen has two living sons , Elmer D and Ralph Boe. Her oldest son Ernest died five years ago.
The family collaborated on a lovely smorgasbord dinner with some of the traditional Scandinavian delicacies, lefse, rullpolse and krumkake and a beautiful birthday cake. Ninety years young she still able to sew a fine seam, tend flowers, take care of her own personal needs and get around on her own power!
Mrs Knutsen attendted tailoring school in Norway where she met her husband Paul Boe. They were married in 1898. After two children Ernest and Elmer were born, Mr Boe decided to seek his fortune in the new world and came to Bremerton. That was three months before the birth of their third child Mary. As soon as he found a job and established a home he sent for his wife and three small children. In 1906 the family moved from Bremerton to the Ballard district and have remained in the North-End ever since. Besides her six living children, Mrs Knutsen has thirteen grandchildren and 35 great-grand children. Mr Paul Boe was fatally injured when struck by a car in 1942. Mrs Boe remained a widow until 1955 when she married Knut Knutsen an old friend. She was then 80 and he was 79. They had seven happy years together before he passed away. This remarkably lovely lady, who could easily pass seventy five has devoted her life to helping others ; probably the reason for her longevity. Even her large family she was able to helpt on graduation, confirmation or weddingdress for young girl
who couldn’t afford to bye one. Doing for others and following the Golden Rule has been her creed.
Mrs Knutsen is a member of Daughters of Norway Breidablik No 10, Nordlandslaget Femboringen and since 1906 the Crown Lutheran Church. Mrs Knutsen will be honor guest at Nordlandslaget’s meeting Thursday evening May 6 at Norway Center.
