Notes
a. Note:   May 5, 1710, at Rochefort, France a Recollet named Louis-Hyacinthe de La Place and somebody named Mornay left for Canada aboard the Ship "L'Africain". they arrived in Quebec City August 9, 1710.
From the "Direction des Archives de France" dated January 6, 2004:
The L'Africain Ship was made in Bayonne in 1692 by M. Arnaud, a master frameworker for the Company of the South Sea. This first affectation may confirm the possibility that this ship was used for the slaves trade. In 1701 the ship was purchased by the Royal Navy which owned it unitl 1719. It is accurate to say that it was armed in Rochefort in 1710 and sent to the Nouvelle France (Canada) under the commnand of Lieutenant Jean-Robert Jousselin de Marigny. It had a two hundred men crew and was armed of forty-four cannons. 20 of 12 (assumed to be inches), 20 of 6 and 4 of 4 (Marine G 18).
One French Canadian DIT book says:
L'Africain is just a dit to the original name of:
 JOUSSEAUME
 JUSSEAUME and also
 JUSSIAUME / JUSSEAU
