John Wernly, minister of the Freeport Ev. Reformed Church [marriage record, obituaries]. Occupation: Farmer. They lived at Freeport, IL until coming to Mower County, MN in 188 where for five years they farmed in Sargeant Township and after ca. 1892 in Dexter Township, west of Dexter, MN. They moved to Austin, MN, ca. 1917. Both died in Austin, Mower County, MN [death records, obituaries]. They are interred in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, MN. 1. Peter Hoffman, 75, Dies Suddenly Here Victim of Heart Attack Visit With Friends About City Yesterday. Austin [MN] Daily Herald 12/27/1923 p-1 c-1 Peter Hoffman, aged seventy-five years, died at his home, 405 North Fourth street, this morning at 3:10 after a few hours illness. He was taken sick while down town yesterday afternoon. The cause of his death was angina pectoris. Mr. Hoffman was born October 12, 1848, at Jackson, Washington county, Wisconsin. On March 16, 1881, he was married to Sophia Kruse at Freeport, Ill. Shortly after their marriage they moved to a farm three and one-half miles west of Dexter, Mower County, Minnesota, where they resided for thirty-six years. In 1917 they purchased the residence at 405 North Fourth street, where they have since made their home. Besides his wife, Mr. Hoffman leaves five children to mourn his loss: Mrs. Minnie Goetch of Blooming Prairie; George Hoffman of Renova, Mrs. John Hagan, Arthur and Benjamin of Dexter. He is also survived by one brother, Fred of Rockford, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. Adam Wittersteder of La Crosse, Wis., Mrs. Louisa Hoban [Harbison] of Elgin, Ill., and Miss Lena Hoffman of Chicago. Mr. Hoffman was a member of the St. John's Lutheran church of this city. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. W. F. Milbrath officiating. 2. Peter Hoffman Buried Sunday. Mower County News, Austin, MN 1/3/1924 p-1 c-4 Funeral services for Peter Hoffman were held last Sunday. He died Thursday [12/27/1923] after a brief illness. He moved to Mower County in the early eighties and settled near Dexter. In 1917 he moved to Austin. He is survived by Mrs. Hoffman and the following children: Mrs. Minnie Goetch, Blooming Prairie; George Hoffman, Renova; Mrs. John Hagen, Arthur Hoffman and Benjamin Hoffman, Dexter. He also leaves a brother and three sisters.
