 Mary was a school teacher at 18 years old in the 1870 census Maude remembers: Mary's family came to Minnesota in a covered wagon when she was about 4 years old. Mary's father, Chancy, made fancy 'made to order' shoes. Chancy also was a farmer and died when he went out to feed the cows. There was an Indian uprising in 1862 and people forded the Mississippi River to St. Cloud. Many people stayed at the Moore's home.
 Maude claimes that Mary S. Moore was Scotch and Irish.
