a. Note:   It appears very likely that Elizabeth Grindstaff (daughter of Michael Grindstaff) is Christopher's Mother, with the Father being Unknown at this time. I base this on the fact that Christopher was born abt. 1830 and Elizabeth didn't marry Joseph SIMMONS until 1838. In the 1850 Knox County, KY Census, Christopher & Elizabeth were living next door to each other, Christopher was 19, married, and going by the surname of GRINDSTAFF, and Elizabeth was married to Joseph SIMMONDS, there was a son William in the SIMMONDS househhold.
 When the two families migrated to Carter County sometime after 1850, Christopher started going by the surname SIMMONS. Family story has it that the Simmons man adopted Christopher, but I have yet to find documentation of this.
