a. Note:   Wilson County Court Minutes for the November Term 1837 reveal the following:
 John Wheeler, an orphan about nine years old, was this day bound by the court to Robert Doughty to learn to be a farmer until he arrives at the age of majority and at the Indenture executed by Silas Tarver Esq, Chairman of the County Court of Wilson County and the said Robert under their hands and seals which is ordered to be filed.
  John Wheeler's grandfather, Robert Doughty, died intestate about September, 1845. Duncan Johnson
 was appointed administrator of Robert Doughty's estate on Monday 6 October, 1845, with securities provided by Jonathan Bailey, L. D. Doughty, and William Doughty, Wilson County Court minutes for February 2, 1846, the following:
  "Phillip Fisher was appointed Guardian of Mary and John Wheeler and Elvira and Newton Coonrod, minors and heirs of Robert Doughty, deceased, who thereuponin open court executed and acknowledged his bond for the faithful performance of said guardianship together with his securities Duncan Johnson and William Swann, said bond is in the sum of $1,000, conditioned as the law directs and approved by the court."
  Wilson County Guardian Settlements, 1845-1851, page 236, provide the following information taken on October 11, 1847 and recorded on December 14, 1848:
  "A settlement with Philip Fisher, guardian of Mary Wheeler, John Wheeler, and Elvira Coonrod and Newton Coonrod, minor heirs of Coonrod deceased who was a daughter of Robert Doughty deceased.
 A settlement was made with the administrator of said Robert Doughty on this 11th of October 1847. According to that settlement, he had in his hands for distribution this sum $2,027.21. The heirs of Mrs. Coonrod were entitled to 1/4s + $506.80. This guardian was entitled to receive 4/5s of this sum, there being five of these heirs = $405.44. The guardian paid clerks fee for guardian bond of $.50 [leaving $404.94.] Each ward's part of this sum is 1/4 = $101.23.
  Mary Wheeler has married and received her part of this estate to wit $100.00 [clerks fee ... $37 1/2 and guardian allowed $.86 1/2.]
  Elvira Coonrod's part is ......
  Newton's 5th part of the estate is $101.23 ...
  John Deskin Wheeler is mentioned as one of the early merchants of Alexandria Tennessee in Goodspeed's DeKalb County History. J. D. Wheeler was later a farmer in the 13th District, Wilson County, Tennessee.
