Notes
a. Note:   BIRTH: Birth date/place not documented but best guess used based on census, tax records, personal tax lists, etc.
MARRIAGE: A search of all records available and known to us has not revealed a name for the wife of Robert Doughty. She was not found in deed, nor in other legal documents.
PARENTS: Although early tax lists enumerating a Reubin DOUGHTY are found in Virginia, and although this Reubin had a number of sons and one was Robert, and although researchers feel this is probably the Robert who migrated to Wilson Co., TN., there is no clear documentation to prove this relationship.
BIRTHPLACE: Census records indicate Robert Doughty was born in Virginia; however, no record of birth has been found. Three counties prominant in Robert Doughty research - Loudoun, Fauquier, and Frederick - seem to be plausible possibilities, however, acceptable documentation proving birthplace has not been found.

CHILDREN: Documented children are Matilda (nee Doughty) Wheeler-Coonrod; William Doughty; Lucinda Doughty (named as "idiot" in guardian papers, however, she signed deed of relinquishment with other heirs when Robert died in 1845); Lorenzo D. Doughty. Robert may have had sons James and John (unidentified John Doughty died 1837 and Robert Doughty was named Administrator. This "John" could be brother or son to Robert. Robert may also have had a third daughter who married a Gill, which might explain a Gill connection which we have not been able to document.

ROBERT DOUGHTY in his lifetime, the tract of land therein described
containing by estimation 37 acres lying in WILSON County, State of
Tennessee, bounded as follows beginning at a cedar said BAILEY's
northeast corner, running with a row of peach trees east 66 poles to
McEACHERN's line, coming to a small hickory and elm near a forked cedar,
thence south with McEACHERN's line 94 poles to an ash and cedar, it

"Robert Doughty for love and affection for his son and daughters and grandchildren Louiza
 D. Doughty, Lucinda Doughty, and William Doughty's heirs, to wit, Jordan, Harriet, John,
Pleasant, Emly and Sterling; and five heirs of my daughter Matilda, to wit, Henry Wheeler, Mary Wheeler, John Wheeler, E. Conrad, and Robert Conrad, all of Wilson and Smith Counties, a tract

Submitter's Comments: Matilda Doughty was married 1st to John Wheeler and
had Henry Wheeler, Mary Wheeler, and John Deskin Wheeler. John Wheeler died,
and Matilda married 2nd John Coonrod and had children Amelia Elvira Coonrod and Robert
Newton Coonrod. Lucinda Doughty was a daughter of Robert Doughty. Robert had no
daughter or granddaughter in 1842, named Louiza D. Doughty; we feel quite sure this
refers to his son Lorenzo D. Doughty. Also, heirs of "Sterling Doughty", son of
William, give his name as "Starling"; this compiler has no idea which is correct.
