Note: The only thing we know about Pierre's origin is based on his son John's indication in census records that his father was born in France. We know of at least two sons: John and Vetile. From Pierre's two sons we get two differing stories.
John's family tells the story that Pierre may have come to America during the Revolution serving with the French forces under General Lafayette. Lafayette arrived in America with a small force in 1777 to support the American cause, so a young soldier would have been born about 1757. This would make Pierre about 60 when he has the two sons in the 1810s, which seems a bit unlikely. This family understood Pierre's last name was originally spelled LaDoucci or LaDucci.
Vetile's son Fletcher's family were told that they came from French Canada and their name was originally spelled LaDeoux. Fletcher indicated in a census record that his father, Vetile, was born in France, though we find many families making this mistake, meaning to indicate that the family was of French origin.
The name was Americanized at some point and has been been spelled several ways including Laddusaw, Ladusaw, Ladersaw, Lagesaw, Ladusau, or Ladduson. In John's family it became Laddusaw and in Vetile's son's family it's now Ladusau.
Three other Laddusaws appear in various records all born in the 1810-20 era and may be related. An Isaac Ladusaw is living next to John in Iowa according to the 1852 Iowa state census. A Charlotte Laddusaw was born in 1819 in Dearborn County, Indiana, married a John Alcorn and later resided in Carroll County, Kentucky and Madison County, Indiana. An Abraham Lattisaw, born ca. 1812, was enumerated in Clark County, Indiana living next to a Ruel Wood and is recorded as marrying a Sabriana Wood that same year. These people are probably sibilings of John and Vetile, but nothing has been found to prove the link.
