Notes
a. Note:   Vetile's first recorded act is his marriage to Nancy Dotson in Rush County, Indiana, in 1843.
He appears in the 1850 census living with his brother John in New London Township, Henry County, Iowa, age 31.
Vetile and Mary Ann's marriage in 1853 is recorded in the Henry County marriage records. They appear in the 1856 Iowa State census with their son, Joseph, age 1, and the two children from his first marriage: Ruhamah, age 12, and George, age 10. In that census, Vetile, Ruhamah, and George are all shown as coming to Iowa in 1851, conflicting with the 1850 data. It may be that Vetile's family didn't go out to Iowa with him and he returned about the time of Nancy's death. He then returned to Iowa with the two living children, Ruhamah and George.
In the 1860 census, Vetile and Mary Ann appear with their three children: Joseph, Fletcher, and Warren. Ruhamah is living with another family as a domestic and George is not listed. According to the Ladusaw-Slaughter family document Vetile died and Mary Ann married John Slaughter in 1861.
