Notes
a. Note:   William may have moved to Indiana Territory at a very young age - a William Dotson cast a vote in Switzerland County in 1813. If this is our William he would have been about 19 years of age. He appears in the 1820 census for Switzerland County, Jefferson Twp, with a wife and the first three children. By 1830 the family has moved to Orange Twp, Rush County. In 1847 and 1851 William bought two pieces of property totaling 120 acres, located in sections 9 and 16 and lying between the modern towns of Moscow and Milroy in the southwest corner of the county.
He's 'age 64' in the 1860 census, still in Orange Twp, P.O. Moscow. His son James and his family are living next door.
Henry Shuppert, son-in-law of Wiliam Dotson, filed a petition for Letters of Administration on William's estate, dated 26 Dec 1864 (Rush County Probate Court, Probate Box 81) . In that petition he named the widow: Sarah Dotson, whom William recently married, and the following named children and heirs at law: Nancy Laudesaw, Jane Shuppert, Ann Arthur, Geo. Dotson, Wm. Dotson, James Dotson, Isabella Dotson, Kaziah Dotson, and Mary Myers.
