Note: Thomas Ladd, age 45 born Granville, Co., North Carolina, enlisted in
Company A, 4th Arkansas Infantry, United States Army as a Private at Clarksville, Arkansas on March 28, 1864. His occupation was farmer. Physical description: "The soldier has blue eyes, grey hair, dark complexion, is five feet eight inches high." He was later transferred to Company I, 2nd Arkansas Infantry, U.S.A.. He died during the war. Charles Ladd's notes:
First Generation 1. Thomas1 LADD was born in North Carolina, Granville Co. about 1819. Thomas died
about 1865. His body was interred 1865 at National Cemetery, Fort Smith, AR.(2438) He is
buried in Section 5, Grave #2576. Next to William Henry Boyer (Grave #2577) also of
Clarksville.
He married Arjane UNKNOWN before 1860. Arjane became the mother of Thomas M.
LADD 1860.
Thomas became the father of Mary Jane LADD about 1849. Thomas became the father of
John D. LADD about 1851. Thomas was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census
in Johnson Co., AR. 1860 Johnson County Arkansas Census - Spadra Township, Dwelling
1208: Ladd, Thomas 41 M, Ammy (?) 23 F, Mary Jane 11 F, John D. 9 M, Thomas M. 4
mos. M.
At 41 years of age Thomas became the father of Thomas M. LADD 1860. Thomas Ladd,
age 45 born Granville, Co., North Carolina, enlisted in Company A, 4th Arkansas Infantry,

Thomas LADD had the following children:
2 i. Mary Jane2 LADD was born about 1849. She married Green HANDLEY after
1867. Green was born in Arkansas March 16, 1851.(2440) Green(2441) was the son of Bailey
HANDLEY. Green died January 21, 1918 at 66 years of age. His body was interred 1918
at Oakland Cemetery, in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas.(2442) At 26 years of age
Green became the father of Rosa Hesty HANDLEY December 4, 1877. At 35 years of age
Green became the father of J. Herbert HANDLEY July 19, 1886. (See Green HANDLEY
for the continuation of this line.)
At 28 years of age Mary became the mother of Rosa Hesty HANDLEY December 4,
1877. At 37 years of age Mary became the mother of J. Herbert HANDLEY July 19,
1886.
3 ii. John D. LADD was born about 1851. Thomas LADD and Arjane UNKNOWN had the following child:
4 iii. Thomas M. LADD was born 1860. Thomas Ladd and Arjane Baker were married the first time March 12, 1848 and were divorced.
They remarried Oct. 21, 1856. Both marriages and the Divorce were in Dickson County, TN.
