1848: See article in the Chandler file dated Thursday December 23, 1948: "He (Gates) was the grandfather of Mrs. Corwin Trask. I remember Gates Chandler. When I was a child, he lived where William Kutzke now lives."
!850: OH FC Ashtabula County, District #18 Orwell Twp FHL #20207. Living next to Joseph Jr & Abigail Chandler and two families away from Joseph I Chandler & his wife Lorrilla and son Albert.
1856: Caroline (Groves) wife of Gates died August 1856.
1857: Gates married Lorinda (Crowell) in April 1857.

1867: Gates was a charter member, and Treasurer, of the Laurel Lodge 220 I.O.G.T. when instigated August 1, 1867. (History of Ashtabula County, OH, page 233.)
1870: The 1870 Putah Township,Yolo County census taken September 1st shows Gates S Chandler (46) & wife Lorrinda (35), with son James C. (17), and daughter Carrie B. (14) living next door to Gates' parents Salmon (74) & Naomi (64).
1877: History of Ashtabula County, Orwell Township (Established 1826). OH 1798-1878 Page 231: " Gates Chandler, son of Solomon Chandler, was the first male child born in the township, being born on the 6th day of January, 1824. * Both the Chandlers are now residents of Plainfield, California."
1880:
1896: Gates spent many years in California, but returned to Orwell by 1896. (Chaddler Family: Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve* Centennial Edition 1896)
1899: Gates died at the age of 75 years 8 months 2 days on September 8, 1899 in Orwell, OH.
