Note: Obituary: Napa Register, Thursday, April 03, 2008 In loving memory of Edwin J. Arata, a native Napan, born on Jan. 16, 1922, to Louis and Emma Arata. Ed was proud to be a member of a pioneer Napa family who settled in Napa Valley in 1866. Ed passed away on March 28, 2008, at the age of 86. He is survived by Sybil, his wife of 64 years; three children: Rick Arata, Sharon Arata and Susan Thomas; four grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was employed at Mare Island Shipyard as a sheet-metal worker for 42 years and retired in 1977. During his career he received many awards and recognitions for his contribution to his job. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II and received an honorable discharge. Comment Email Print ShareHe was a member of Napa Valley Lutheran Church for over 50 years where he contributed many hours and especially enjoyed fellowship and working with other members of the property and maintenance committee. Ed was a lifelong sports enthusiast and was very proud of family members who participated and excelled in sports. He truly enjoyed his garden of flowers and vegetables, and time spent in his yard. We will always remember him as the storyteller. He loved to tell his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren stories about his life and mischievous youth. Ed was a loving husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m., at the Napa Valley Lutheran Church, 1796 Elm St., Napa. Donations may be made in Ed�s name to Kaiser Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, CA 94589, or to a charity of the donor�s choice.
