All of the information below about Verlanders is certainly interesting and all of the years of researching for our missing Verlanders, the wrong ancestors as you will see in this report, was caused because the sons of Lydia Charlotta Wallander thought she was saying "Verlander." Page 3 of "Cradled in Sweden" has this explanation: The Swedish letter "W" is pronounced like a "V" in English. So, Lydia's expression of her maiden name being "Verlander" is actually the correct Swedish pronounciation of the name, but actually sounding more like "Va(augh)l land' er" instead of "wal lander." Met some very nice Verlanders and thus will retain their data until I see the need to clean my files of redundant material (I just hate to git rid of redundant material - it may eventually become dundant). ;==))

Olof Wallander was a witness to a marriage in Dodge County, Nebraska between December 25, 1871 and July 9, 1877. Another witness was Swan Anderson. The recorded document appears on page 408 of those Dodge County records.
Joseph and Lydia obtained a marriage license in Saunders County, Nebraska, but may have been married in Dodge County, NE.
York County, Nebraska has a Charles G. Wallander mentioned in its 1887 city directory. He is probably related to Olof.
The 1890-1891 Business Directory and Farmer List of Saunders County, Nebraska shows Olof Wallander residing in Yutan (town or precinct), Saunders County, Nebraska.
An Eric Wallander married Ruby Florom in Dawson County, Nebraska between 1873 and 1937. Volume 8, Page 588, Marriage Records.

1880 census of Pohocco, Saunders Co., NE., shows the following:
OLAF WALLANDER - age 59, born Sweden, Clergyman, parents both of Sweden.
CECELIA WALLANDER - age 62, born Sweden, wife, parents of Sweden.
CHARLES O. WALLANDER - age 24, born Sweden, Farmer.
COLSON AMELIA WALLANDER - NIECE, age 13, born Sweden. (I would say this proves Olof's brother made it to America and died after 1867, or died on the ship, or Olof did not immigrate to America until after 1867 and after his brother's death.
This 1880 census shows a widow, Christine Wallander, age 31, residing in the home of Henry S. Jones in Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, working as a servant. Maybe they left her there with steady employment while they headed out west? Christine is the only Wallander/Wallender listed in Massachusetts.
1880 census of Pohocco, Saunders Co., NE., shows a Colson Amelia Wallander, niece, age 13, living in the household of Olaf Wallander and Cecelia Wallander. Did Olaf's siblings and entire family also make the trip to America?
The 1880 census shows a Charles O. Wallander born about 1856 (age 24) but the earlier Swedish records of birth do not show Charles. Could Carl Oscar be Charles O.?

4/16/03: E-mail message from Eva Wallander of Sweden (eva.wallander@@botany.gu.se) gave this account regarding her Wallander ancestry:
"Anders Larsson was born 1767 (the son of Lars Jonason). Common in those days, for poor and 'unimportant' people, was to take as the last name the name of the father and add -son. So Larsson is Lars' son. Anyway, then came a change when Anders was educated to become a shoemaker and as such he could take another last name. In 1792 he moved to an area named Valle (Walle) near the city of V�nersborg in Sweden and took the name Wallander, meaning something like "Anders from Walle." From then on his relatives have had this name and in 1995 I was married to Tage's (Tage Wallander) son Johan and also got this name. Several in the Wallander family emigrated to America, some later returned, and both Tage and his brother Olof (not the Olof you write about below) have lived for awhile in USA during the 1926-30."
