Note: Lalia, or Aunt Lalia, was loved by all of her family and friends. She was a warm and loving individual that always had a full candy jar, a home with wonderful smells and the biggest smile and hug for all. My favorite memories are swinging on her front porch dreaming about the future. She was so kind and patient to me and I assume those traits carried over to all. While Lalia had no children, she had the affections of her nieces and nephews far and wide. Cousin Albert, her 1/2 nephew communicated with her all his life from Wyoming. He also visited often as well as Lalia and Roy visiting him. This Wyoming visits usually always had a niece or nephew in tow and my mother, LaVerne Sims Allen Kennedy, had the wonderful chance to visit Wyoming with Aunt Lalia and Uncle Roy in her teenage years. Lalia maintained an extensive scrapbook that remains in the Sims archives today. Her interest varied to Talladega history, weather, to local political issues. She also kept items of Ada's pertaining to the phone company. It is apparent in Lalia's younger days, she and Ada were very popular, social and fun loving girls, as noted by the photo's that Lalia kept. It must have been hard for Lalia for her mother to die when she was 7 and for her maternal grandmother to raise her. If it was though, she never let that sadness show through to me or any of the younger generations. Her and Roy's home, were she lived to her death, was beautifully decorated and always so welcoming and neat. The home today is no longer in the family however, the family that lives there now have taken very good care of the home. Herbert Sims, a while back, stopped by the home to thank the current owners for taking such good care of one of the family homes. Lalia lived a long and religious life and one can only know that she is now with her Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister and Husband in heaven. When Lalia, Hugh and Ada's mother died at 28 (Maggie Alice Henley Sims) the children were: Lalia: would have been 7 years old Ada: would have been 6 years old Hugh: would have been 4 years old As was the custom in those days, the father rarely raised children by themselves. I asked my Grandmother, Miriam Dark Sims, today (4/5/2002) who raised the children. She stated that Maggie's parents (Mr. and Mrs. Henley, Renfroe, Alabama) raised them. (For more information on Mr. and Mrs. Henley refer to Family Tree for exact names, DOB, DOD, other children, etc) Lisa Allen Baggett October, 2002
