Notes
a. Note:   From Hugh (PaPaw's) Funeral Service:
Mr. Sims lived a Christian life. He was a member of good standing of the Hepzibah Baptist Church. He loved and served the Lord though his Church.
He served in many capacities in the Church. Among them: Sunday School Director, Teacher, Deacon and concerned visitor for Christ and the Church. He was a member of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class who serve as honorary pallbearers today. Mr. Sims served as a Trustee and on the Executive Committee of the Coosa River Baptist Association.
Mr. Sims was a family man. He loved his family and left some 40 heirs. The 40 roses on the casket represent each member of his family.
He was a civic and community minded man. Lifelong resident of Talladega County, Alabama. He was concerned about community, county, state and national affairs. Served as member of the Talladega County Cattlemen's Association, Honorary Director of Talladega County Farm Bureau. A fifty year Mason and Retired Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office for 39 years.
Mr. Sims was interested in life and kept abreast of the times. He was able to discuss current events and knew what was going on in the world. He had an optimistic outlook on life due to his Christian faith. He had a keen sense of humor and was able to see the lighter side of things. When asked recently how he was doing his reply was, "Pretty good for the shape I am in". He wrote a poem entitled, "On Day Before my 82nd Birthday".
One day before my birthday this is what I said: "Oh Lord, now what can I do for you, One more day and I shall be 82. But isn't there something that can be done about "Old Father Time?" And the mountain of years we all must climb? Like it or not let's enjoy year, As they continue to appear. One year at a time, rather than fall by the wayside of life alone, to pine and while. 4/17/1980 to my faithful pastor, Bro. Casaday ====================================================================================
Miriam "Dark" "Memaw" Sims told me last week:
"Hugh told me that he would be waiting at Heavens Gate for me and would help me across the river". Her eyes and face showed so much love for her husband when she said this, at 99 years old. Our Memaw is not one for emotions, as we all know, but for once I could see the love in her eyes and her voice swelled with emotion. I had to ask, "Memaw, will you and Papaw wait for me too?" She said they would.
How blessed they were to find that kind of love, that almost 80 years later you can still see and feel Memaw's love for her husband, and our Father and Grandfather, Hugh Sims.
