Notes
a. Note:   Death of Arthur Cook
At the residence of Mr. N. B. Cook in Alpine, on Wednesday, February 10th, 1915, little Arthur Cook, son of Mr. N. B. and Mrs Nettie Cook. On his eleventh birthday (Feb 7) he was a little ill but rapidly grew worse and died with diphtheria on Wednesday the 10th of February. We have seldom have been called to shed the tears of sympathy over the grave of one whose early death was more deeply lamented.
Such a bright happy little boy, whose gentle spirit won the love of all who came within the circle of his acquaintance. When we look for the last time upon one we loved too dearly, when we see the bright, the beautiful eyes that always beamed with love closed in death, and that once warm and joyful heart so cold, so still how crushing is our agony, how dreary, how desolate is our home. But we must learn to look away from the dark cold grave, which contains our lost treasures, and view them as they are, bright angels, our own guardian angels in Heaven.
He has joined the Angel band in your bright World above. He has gone to the Happy Land. Where all in peace and love.
  A Friend
Note: The original handwritten obituary was found in the Sims archives which was mostly the items of Claudia during this time. I believe that Claudia did pen the obituary. Arthur was more like a son than a nephew to Claudia and Eunice as since his early childhood he lived with them so often. Also located in the archives is a letter to Claudia from Mittie Williams, East St. Louis which in part says "very sorry indeed to hear of little Arthur's death. I know he is missing in the home. May the dear Lord ever bless you with all spiritual blessings that you need in this evil time to stand true to who hath redeemed us."
