 "...came to Detroit (after first being in Massachusetts with her mother and sisters Kate & Nellie) and went to business college and worked as a secretary for years. She and her good friend Maud CAMPBELL (no relation) lived in the Y.W.C.A. in downtown Detroit."

 Gramma lied about her age something awful. At one time we found papers (now gone) "proving" she was somewhere between 65 and 110. We concluded that she most likely gave the Social Security Administration her correct age. She worked nearly all of her life, including all the way through the Great Depression.

(the original ship manifest is not available on-line at this time--9 June 2001) [Later the original ship manifest is viewable but not completely printable on-line--April 2003] Additional information hand copied indicates that her occupation was "Machinist"; nearest relative in country whence alien came: cousin, George GILMOUR, 12 Murana Place, Edinburgh; final destination: Conn., Middleton, passage paid by: self; whether in possession of $50 and if less, how much?; $15; going to join, brother-in-law, David E. Davidson, 55 Horne Ave., Middleton, Conn.; health: good; deformed or crippled, no; height, 5'5"; complexion, fair; hair, fair; eyes, blue; place of birth: Scotland, Strathmiglo.

She is listed as 31 years old, housewife, can read and write English, Nationality: Gr. Britain, Race: Scotch, Last permanent residence: Detroit, Michigan, Name & complete address of nearest relative or friend in country from whence alien came: Sister, Mrs. Hodge 5, South Eastern Terrace, Upper Walmer, Kent, Eng. Additional information shows she had been in the United States since 1912, under "Whether going to join a relative of friend; and what relative or friend, and his name and complete address": Husband, Mr. Alex Dalrymple, 2537 McClellan Ave., Detroit, MIch., her health is listed as "Good"; height 5'2" with fair complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. Daughter, Grace, infant, traveled with her.

Gilmour DALRYMPLE, grandmother of Alex and Denise DALRYMPLE, Joel CAMPBELL, Mrs. Gail SCHULTE, and Mrs. Maureen HOLMES. Services 11 o'clock Thursday morning at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home 15251 Harper Ave. Visiting after 12 noon Wednesday."
