Note: ! My Dad John Homer Salmon, son of Henery Freeland Salmon (a Civil War Veteran) and Mary Alice Carr. Dad was born in Mingo, Iowa on 3 May 1885. He had three brothers and 4 sisters namely William, Milo, Harry, Lucy, Minnie, Gertie, and Anne. I was fortunate to see and visit with all except Harry and Minnie at different times and places. I visited with aunt Lucy and her husband John Walker and their sons ans daughters in Los Angeles, California. Gail and I visited with Aunt Gertie in Maxwell, Iowa and aunt Anne in Arkansas while on a trip to the east in 1974. Alvin and I looked up and visited with uncle Milo in the state of Washington while we were on military manuvers with the Utah National Guard in 1940. Dad loved the gospel and spent much time studying the scriptures, Mom was equally a good teacher primarily by example. Dad received a promise from the Lord in his patriarical blessing that his family would never go without the necessites of life and that blessing was fullfilled. It would have been great if more of the kids would have gone on to higher education, or some of the older ones could have finished high school, but these handicaps never prevented any of my brothers or sisters from excelling in their professions, and giving their familes the blessings and comforts that we all enjoy today. Dad always wanted to go on a mission for the Church, bur never had the chance in this life. There is another place where missionary work is being accomplished in the Spirit World and I'm sure he's busy there (see Peter 4:6). Many of his offspring have and will complete missions for the Church in this World and Dad will get lots of credit for that work because of the teaching skills of his great example. Dad died 0n 10 November 1937, at the age of 53, and was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetary By Melvin John Salmon January, 1984
