Notes
a. Note:   ns, David Carl, and David's son, Steve James Carl. Since she had the full birthdates of everyone in the family, and had all 16 children, I believe she had the family bible or a copy of the family records from that bible.
In his pension records, Daniel Martin Carl, one of Wilson and Elizabeth's sons, claimed that Wilson and Elizabeth had had a family bible that one of his siblings might have, but he later told the pension examiners it had been destroyed. I understand Lorena spent her lifetime trying to find where Wilson was born and his parents, but did not succeed.
According to David Devon Walters on FamilySearch.com, John and Christina Carl of Pennsylvania were the parents of Wilson William Carl, who married Elizabeth Swickard. I tried to contact him at his given address, 1773 Woodbrook Lane, Fallbrook, California 92028, for his sources, but my letter was returned and I have been unable to locate him by phone. Walters has his data on a Pedigree Resource File, i.e., Compact Disc #19 available through LDS. The information quoting Walters on FamilySearch says that Wilson was born abt 1816 in Chester Twp, Meiggs [improper spelling] County, Ohio, married about 1835, and died in 1880 in Bedford Twp, Athens Co [Bedford Twp is in Meigs County, not Athens County], OH. He does not offer additional information about Wilson's parents.
1 March 1817: Wilson's birthdate according to Lorena Washeck's records, Ibid.
19 Oct 1838: Wilson Carrel married Elizabeth Swickard in Jefferson Co, OH. Her brother Jacob was the witness. Susan Carl found a handwritten list of marriages after the typed list in the Jefferson County, Ohio book of MARRIAGES 1810 TO 1838 in the
Courthouse at Steubenville, and Wilson and Elizabeth's marriage was recorded on that handwritten list.
1840 Ohio, Jefferson Co, Salem Twp, Roll M704_405, P. 101.Line 13, Ancestry Census Image 13: Wilson Carrel, the head of a family is between 20 and 29. His wife the same. Then there are 3 minors listed: One female between 10 and 14, one male between 5 and 9, and one female under 5. It is believed that the two older children were relatives, and the female under 5 was their daughter, Margaret. Since their other daughter, Mary, who also would have been under 5, is not included, it is believed she died before the census.
1842: Wilson and Elizabeth are recorded as being in Meigs County, Ohio according to the land deed from Daniel Swickard, her father.

8 June 1876, Case 890, Document F, P. 266, Box 239, Undertaking in Error: George Dais began proceedings in the Meigs Co Court of Common Pleas to reverse the judgement made 6 June 1876 favoring the State of Ohio, ordered by J. B. Smith, the mayor of Middleport, Ohio, Salisbury Twp, Meigs Co, for $50 & $45.85 in costs. He, his wife, and F. C. Russell [their attorney] promised to pay the State of Ohio $102, if the judgement held. Their reasons: George Dais had not been served with a summons, had
not been charged with a crime, that the case had not been turned over the Meigs Co Probate Court, but instead the Mayor took over the jurisdiction of the case, and fined and committed Mr. Dais, even though Mr. Dais had pled not guilty. (This case
involved a dispute between Wilson and Elizabeth and their neighbors, George and Catharine Dais, over who really owned certain property. The case went on and on back and forth.)
1 June 1880 Ohio, Meigs Co, Bedford Twp Census, P. 27 (Written), P. 9C (Stamped), Ancestry Census Image 17: Wilson Carl, 64, his wife Elisabeth, 63, and 3 sons John, 49, single, crippled; David, 30, married; Stephen, 21, single, and David's wife, Margaret, 16, all said to have been born in Ohio to parents all born in Ohio. Wilson, Elizabeth, and John could not read nor write. All the men were labeled as farmers, Elizabeth and Margaret, keeping house. George and Catharine Dais, who sued the Carls, and their family are found on this same page.
1880: Year of death according to David Devon Walters on FamilySearch.com, who has the place of death as Bedford Twp, Athens Co, Ohio. Bedford Twp was in Athens Co, Ohio but about 1875 became part of Meigs Co, Ohio.
26 July 1880, Document 9, P. 95, #2037, Elizabeth & Nathan Carl vs Catherine Dais: Christopher Wise, 35, a farmer, resident of Bedford Twp, Meigs Co, Ohio, was deposed in the Meigs Co Court of Common Pleas. His testimony follows: He did not expect he would be in the county able to give evidence during the October term. He was acquainted with the parties and with the subject matter of the suit. He had been present when Elizabeth and her son Nathan, the plaintiffs, were ejected from the premises as previously described. When asked about what crops were growing upon the premises "here in controversy," he said that there were abt 8 acres of corn which produced abt 40 bushels of corn, some apples, some oats which produced 72 acres when threshed, and there was a little in the garden they used "which did not amount to anything". Nathan Carl had said Stephen Carl was the owner of the corn crop, and he had heard Nathan swear before the J.P. at Pagetown, Meigs Co, Ohio that Stephen owned all the crop on the said premises. As far as the disputed fence rails, three loads of abt seventy-five old and rotten rails were hauled off the premises onto Mrs. Dais's place, and four loads, also old and rotten, were hauled off the premises and put on the line between the premises and the land of John H. Cummings. When asked by the Carl's attorney, C. S. Bradbury, as to whether he was working for Mrs. Dais at the time, he answered that he was, and had been working for her from the beginning of harvest until late in the fall. [The next question does not fully show up on the document, but the ending is "getting any of the fruit or having the use of any of the garden on the premises in dispute."] Mr. Wise said that he saw Mrs. Carl getting fruit from the orchard and use vegetables from the garden. The aforegoing was recorded by the Notary Public, James H. Ralston.
17 Dec 1879 (Wed.): In the Meigs County Telegraph:
"HABEAS CORPUS. --- Wilson Carl was sent to jail yesterday, by Squire Hart, of Scipio, on a charge of perjury preferred by George Dais. Wilson procured an attorney, Chas. Hays, who had him brought before the Probate Court on a writ of habeas corpus, where he was discharged on account of having been committed on a defective mittimus."
ca 1882: In the court case re a dispute over property ownership, mentioned above, Wilson was jailed for a time because he did not appear in court the date required and pay the bail ensuring that he would appear in court, etc. His attorney got him
released based upon an unlawful incarceration.
1897-1898: Estimated year of Wilson's death based upon the 1 June 1900 census in Bedford Twp, Meigs Co, Ohio, when Elizabeth, widowed, then head of the household, was said to have been married 60 years. [They married 1 Oct 1838.] The Meigs County [Ohio] Pioneer and Historical Museum, Pomeroy, Ohio, wrote me in 1997 that Wilson's death is not listed in Meigs Co. death records. However, they said the same about Elizabeth's death record and they were wrong, as she was found as Elizabeth Carrell. Susan Carl has searched through Meigs County's newspapers and death records and cannot find Wilson's date and place of death.
Abt 31 Dec 1900: Elizabeth's obituary says that she was buried at the Burlingham Cemetery, so it is believed that Wilson was buried beside her.
Note:   All Wilson Carl's family's birthdates came from the typed family records of Mrs. James (Lorena Elberta Carl) Washeck of St . Louis, MO (b 28 March 1913, d 15 Aug 1990). Lorena was a descendant of Wilson and Elizabeth, via one of their youngest so
