  According to the History of Fulton County, Illinois, 1879: He is a prominent teacher and was educated in Sharon, Ohio. He entered his chosen profession in 1850. In 1853 he moved to Iowa. In 1854 he married Nancy A. Ham. They returned to Ohio in 1857; Iowa in 1860 and in 1863 moved to Fulton County, Illinois. They had 7 children. He enlisted in February 4, 1865 and mustered out September 5, 1865 of the 148th Infantry Company B as a Sergeant. They lived in Canton, Illinois.
