  A Jo. Barber and Levi Coe (Abigail has a brother of this name, b. 1760) are shown in a pay abstract for the Horse Travel of Capt. Alex Waugh's Company in the 17th Regiment [6th Brigade?] of the State of Connecticut who marched on a sudden emergency to oppose the enemy who were burning Fairfield and Norwalk on July 10, 1779. In 1779 Joseph would have been about 25 years old, Levi Coe about 19 years old. The company was in service at Horse Neck in July and August, 1779, under Andrew Adams, Lieut.-Colonel Commander.
  A Joseph Barber of Harwington is listed in the 17th Reg't commanded by Col. Sheldon of the Sixth Brigade of Militia in the State of Connecticut to serve until the first day of March, 1780.
