Notes
a. Note:   The following email was recieved from Fred Sedgwick (email http://www.lareau.org/geneal.html ) on August 30, 2001 in response to an inquiry I made for the Deriger de Plante family in this tree. Of speacil note is the original name of the Plante family.
  Hi Roseanne,
Research by Roger Parent in 1942 says that the original name was
Leriget, then Lerig de La Plante when the family inherited land at a
place in France called "La Plante". The name was often spelt Leriger
later on. This is explained fully in his booklets about Clment, and
about his descendants. My grandmother and her brothers and sisters used
Laplante, but her parents used Leriger. Incidentally, it is not correct
to say Leriger dit Laplante as the "dit" has a meaning similar to
"alias". In your case, Leriger de Laplante, means Leriger from (the
 place called) La Plante.
Here is your line from Louis to Clment taken from Roger Parents book:
Louis Lerig de Laplante married Louise Smith at St. Constant,
Laprairie, 31 Jan 1815. Louis was the son of Charles-Clment Lerig de
Laplante and Vronique Saint-Yves who were married at St Philippe,
Laprairie, 6 Oct 1760. Charles-Clment was the son of Paul Lerig de
Laplante and Barbe Dupuy who married at Laprairie, 11 Nov 1733. Paul was
the son of Clment Lerig de Laplante and Marie Roy, married 8 Sep 1700
 at Laprairie.
I have translated the two booklets written by Roger Parent into English,
and you can read them online at our cousin Paul Lareau's web site at:
 http://www.lareau.org/geneal.html
Just scroll down and you can't miss the books.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me. Let me know
 what you think.
  Regards,
  Your cousin Fred
