Notes
a. Note:   ! John Clark II, son of John Clark (Rev War) and Abigail Hutchinson, married Anna Gibbs. They had nine children. John was a pioneer minister and was always on the frontier. He was never longer than seven years in one place, yet he never made a move without consulting his wife. She would seek the counsel of the Lord and was guided by the answers to her prayers. Pioneer church work took John much from home, so the work of raising and caring for the family fell to the little mother and the older boys. She must have done an excellent work for ALL six of her sons became preachers, except Gibbs, and even he exhorted at times. They were largely self-educated, persuing their studies through the long winter evenings by the light of the open fire. John's last charge was the pastorate of the Baptist Church at Oxford, Illinois, where he passed on to his reward in June of 1852.
