Note: "Samuel and Susan moved to Illinois and Iowa before coming to Nebraska in 1883 and settling in Holt County." Samuel & Susan split and Susan with her unmarried children settled in cherry county by the 1890's. Samuel stayed in Iowa (one story says with his daughter Adaline and another story says with the Levi Overman family). Samuel died July 13, 1896 and is buried in Boone Co., Iowa. Susan died on May 12, 1916 due to a Diphtheria epidemic. A private funeral was held and she was buried at Kilgore, Nebraska. The 1880 U.S. Census taken in Yell, Boone, Iowa confirms that Samuel is iving with Levi H. Overman and his wife Susana and their 4 children. He is 53 years old at this time. His marital status is listed as married. U.S. Census of Aug 15, 1850 taken in Jackson township of Parke Co., Indiana lists Samuel Coleman as residence 158. (Zopher Coleman, Sr. family is # 156, and Zopher Coleman Jr. family is residence # 157. All are farmers. Samuel Coleman is listed as age 22 farmer b. in Indiana, with Susan Coleman age 20, born in N.C. and Rhoda A. age 1 female b. in Indiana . This cesus would indicate his birth year as 1828. The memorial at Findagrave.com shows stone which says he died July 16, 1896 and was aged 76 years. George and Wilkins are listed as farmers. Samuel's family includes John W. age 8, Martha J, age 6, Huldy M, age 3, and George W., age 1. Value of real estate and personal property is each 150. Skip 3 houses and we find the James Taylor family : James, 22, Lydia (Lidda) age 22, Mary C, age 4, Rhodisa R, age 2, and G.W. age 6/12. They are farmers from Indiana with the kids born in Iowa.
