Note: The Carlton County Vidette, Friday, 25 March 1921 (p.1): "Mrs. Aug Larson Died This Week -- Had Suffered Many Months From Complications -- Funeral Was Held Monday -- Gave Up Life After a Lingering Illness of Long Duration. "Death came at last, after many months of suffering, to relieve Mrs. Anna Evelina Larson, wife of August Larson of Carlton, last Friday, March 18, 1921, after a lingering illness extending over several years, from a number of different ailments. She had been down at St. Mary's hospital, Duluth, several times within the past few years, and many times her life was despaired of, but her wonderful vitality seemed to pull her through each time, and yet she suffered from the illness at all times, and had not been well for many years, so that she could enjoy life. "Everything that her devoted husband, August Larson, could do was done for her to ease her suffering or lighten her pain, and owing to such good care her life was prolonged many months after it would otherwise have flickered out. But all the care could not avail at the end, and she passed away at St. Mary's hospital, at Duluth, last Friday. "The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the Swedish Lutheran church, with Rev. E. O. Chelgren officiating, and interment was in Hillside cemetery, where so many of her relatives and friends have been laid to rest before. Mrs. Anna Evelina Larson was born at Koppabergs province [i.e. Kopparberg], Sweden, on Sept. 24, 1854. She married August Larson in their native land of Sweden, in 1877. They came to America and settled in Carlton county in 1885. She became a member of the Swedish Lutheran church in 1886, taking a prominent part in the work of the Sunday school, Ladies' Aid Society and choir of the church. There are left to mourn her, the widowed husband, August Larson, one of the kindest men of the community, two sisters, Mrs. A. D. Eckland, of Carlton, and Mrs. Hedin, of Waterville, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Axel Larson of Atkinson; Mrs. Conrad Froberg of Carlton and Mrs. Fish of Dubuque, Ia. Sixteen grand children and many other relatives and friends are left to mourn her loss. "The funeral was well attended, and many beautiful floral tributes were offered, as tokens of respect to her memory." ---------- The death certificate of Mrs. Anna E. Larson states that she was born 18 November 1854 in Sweden. (This birthdate contradicts the Vidette obituary; the informant on the death certificate was August Larson.) She died on 18 March 1921, in St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth; the cause of death was cirrhosis of the liver, lasting three years, with a doctor's note adding, "liver seen two years ago during operation for gall stones." August did not supply the names of Anna's parents, which are given as "unknown," but he did add that they were born in Sweden. Anna had been a resident in the U.S. for 37 years (that is, since approximately 1884).
