The Carlton County Vidette, Thursday, 8 October 1931 (p.1, 8):
"'Con' Froberg Died Sunday -- Following Long Illness With Cancer -- Prominent Odd Fellow -- Was Employed By the Great Northern in Signal Tower.
"Carl Conrad K. Froberg, resident of Carlton for twenty-two years, passed away at St. Mary's hospital, Duluth, Sunday morning, Oct. 4, at 7 A. M. Death came as a relief from intense suffering caused by cancer of the liver. He had been confined to bed most of the time for the past three months and had been in ill health for a year and a half. He was confined to a Cloquet hospital for several weeks during July and on Monday of last week was removed to the Duluth hospital, where surgical treatment was given him in a last attempt to save his life.
"'Con,' as he was familiarly known to local people, was born in Sweden on Aug. 12, 1880, thus being slightly more than 51 years of age. When 4 years of age he came to this country with his parents and they settled in Iowa. In 1909 he came to Carlton, which has been his home ever since. Before coming to Carlton he resided at Motley, Minn. for a number of years.
"On June 24, 1910, he was united in marriage with Alma Larson of Carlton, at Cloquet, and she, together with their four children, survive him. The children are Everett, Edna, June and Raymond. The only other close relatives are a brother, Charles Froberg, of Motley, and a sister, Mrs. C. O. Sandgren, of Gowrie, Iowa. These latter two came here to attend the funeral services.
"Mr. Froberg was in the employ of the railroad companies, the Northern Pacific and Great Northern, for most of his working life. When he first came to Carlton he was employed as clerk at the union depot here, which position he held until 1915, when he became a signal man in the Great Northern tower here, filling that job satisfactorily until he was forced to take a lay-off in June of this year, due to illness. He was connected with the Swedish Lutheran church in his early life and was a prominent and conscientious member of the Odd Fellows' lodge here. He had held all of the various offices in that fraternal organization at different times and at the time of his death was a trustee. He was highly thought of by his fellow members in the lodge and also by his co-workers in the signal service.
"The funeral was held from the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and was attended by a large crowd of sympathizing friends. It was under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. lodge. Rev. F. M. Eckman of the Bethesda Lutheran church officiated and preached a very intellectual spiritual sermon. Mrs. William Waide and Mrs. O. F. Walters sang appropriate hymns at the beginning and close of the services, with Mrs. F. J. Johnson at the piano as accompanist. The casket was banked with beautiful flowers.
"After the services at the house, the Odd Fellows followed the remains to Hillside cemetery, where the burial rites of the order were carried out.
"Many expressions of sympathy were heard from the many friends and fraternal brothers, which are all most sincerely tendered to the sorrowing relatives."
