Note: The household of Anders D. Ecklund was enumerated in Twin Lakes township of Carlton County, Minnesota, on the 1880 Federal census. It consisted of Anders, age 31, wife Hillma, 21, daughter Eveline, ten months, sister Emma, 16, and boarder Ole J. Olson, 22. Anders and Ole were storekeepers, Hilma a housekeeper, and Emma at home. Anders, Hilma, and Emma had been born in Sweden, the baby in Minnesota, and Ole in Norway. The family of Andrew [?] Eckland was enumerated in Carlton village of Carlton County, Minnesota, on the 1900 Federal census. He was 51 and had been born in Sweden, immigrating in 1874. He was a naturalized citizen; his occupation is presently illegible (it seems to start with "G" but does not appear to be "grocer"). With him were wife Helma/Hilma, 42, daughters Evelina V., 20, and Emma E., 19, and sons Andrew W. [?], 15, and F-- Lewis/David, ten (the names are difficult to read and/or overwritten). Hilma had borne five children, of whom four were living at the time of the census. She had also been born in Sweden, having immigrated in 1875; the children had all been born in Minnesota. The two boys had attended school that year, Andrew for four months (Forest's length of attendance is not stated). Andrew sr. rented their home. ---------- Carlton County Vidette, 29 December 1906: "Death of Andres [sic] Daniel Eckland. Anders Daniel Eckland, a pioneer resident of Carlton, aged 57 years, died at his home in this village on Dec. 26, after suffering for several months from cancer of the stomach. Aders [sic] Daniel Eckland was born at Eskedalen Sillerud forsamling, Wermland's Lan, Sweden [sic], January 16, 1849. He came to America in the spring of 1871 coming to Thomson the same year. He was married to Miss Hilma Garnstrom on Nov. 10th, 1875, who survives him. Four children, Mrs. G. S. Oshlund, residing at New York City, Mrs. Edwin Hedman, and two sons Walter and Forest who reside in Carlton, also mourn the death. Since 1873 to the time of his death, deceased was actively engaged in business in Carlton where by his fair dealings he won a host of friends who deeply regret his demise. Funeral services will be held at the Swedish Lutheran church to-morrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. C. O. Swendon, of Cloquet, assisted by Rev. G. S. Oshlund, of New York City. Interment will be made in the Carlton cemetery. The Vidette joins with the community in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives."
