Note: Ivanhoe (Minnesota) Times, undated F.E. 'Smokey' McFadden, 60, Village Policeman, Died Aug 9. Death came unexpectedly last Thursday to a prominent and well-known Ivanhoe resident. Francis 'Smokey' McFadden, age 60, died of a coronary heart attack while assisting at a garage fire behind the Frank Lipinski residence here, at about 10 p.m., August 9. Mr. McFadden was employed for many years as Chief of Police of the Village of Ivanhoe, as well as assisting with many other duties throughout the village. He was a friendly and well-liked figure to young and old alike. Funeral services were held Monday, August 13 at 10 a.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Ivanhoe. Officiating at the Requiem High Mass was Father Dobrenski and Father Cletus. Pallbearers were: Ed Gillis, Lloyd Whipple, Dr. W.F. Ellgen, Robert Shane, Julius Petersen and Erwin l. Johnson. Interment was in the Ivanhoe cemetery. The Ivanhoe Volunteer Fire Department also attended services in a body. Francis E. McFadden was born January 21, 1902, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William McFadden at Wakefield Nebraska. He attended school in Kansas City, Missouri. He came to Lincoln County in 1919, where he resided until his death. Surviving him are his wife,Marcia (Briffett); and the following children: Lynn, St. Paul, Michael, 17, Kathryn, 15, and Julie Ann, 14, all at home. Also surviving is one sister, Maude Brown, Toledo, Ohio. Preceding him in death were: his parents, brother, and step-father, John Fineran, and his first wife, Martha Bonczek. Among his hobbies were collecting antiques, guns and hunting. As 'Smokey' was a familiar figure on the streets of Ivanhoe Volunteer Fire Department and active in Boy Scouting. He also served as Deputy Sheriff of Lincoln County. Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. J.B. Brown, Toledo Ohio; Mrs. Ambrose Lawler, Breda Iowa; Mrs. B.J. Launderville, Storm Lake, Iowa; Vince Rowan, Wall Lake, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Rowan and Briged, Manila, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lanz and Mr. and Mrs. Iden Meyers, Pukwana, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. James R. Treganza, St. Paul' Mr. and Mrs. Bud Briffett, Lake Benton; Mr. and Mrs. George Sprink, Arco; and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Freseman, Waseca; and numerous friends from the vicinity.
