a. Note:   Theodore came to America on the Ship Union from Bremen, arriving in New York on 6 Oct 1857 with his mother Elizabeth and three of his brothers - Karl, Wilhelm, and Heinrich. He lived first with his brother Ludwig in New York City. But was in Fort Wayne in 1859 when his oldest son was born, and moved there after the Civil War.
 In New York he belonged to Pilger Verein #1, a mutual aid society. He had a bakery on Artone St, and lived on East 17th Street.
  He was active in the GAR, and served as commander of the Sion S. Bass Post. He was a member of Christ's Lutheran Church.
